1,000 New US Jobs - Vestas Receives Record Order For US Wind Farm From Pattern Energy

Portland, USA - Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received a firm order from Pattern Energy for a large part of the SunZia Wind project in New Mexico, USA. This is Vestas' largest order to date in the US market and the largest single Vestas onshore project in the world.

With 242 V163-4.5 MW wind turbines, the 1.1 GW order is also the largest order to date for Vestas' latest high power factor turbine. The order includes the delivery and commissioning of the turbines as well as a multi-year service contract.

"Achieving this monumental order milestone is a testament to Vestas' unwavering commitment to advancing clean energy solutions in the U.S. The demand for renewable energy continues to soar, and we are proud to be at the forefront of this change," said Laura Beane, President of Vestas North America.

"Our turbine order with Vestas is a big step toward building the nation's largest wind turbine, SunZia Wind, which will generate clean energy for 3 million Americans in Western markets," said Hunter Armistead, CEO of Pattern Energy. "The majority of Vestas turbines will be manufactured here in the United States, helping SunZia create thousands of new manufacturing and construction jobs."

Vestas' first onshore order of more than 1 GW in the U.S. market follows a recent commitment by Vestas to invest $40 million in its domestic facility to manufacture the V163 4.5 MW turbine. The expansion of the two factories in Colorado is nearing completion. This includes building extensions and production facilities as well as the recruitment of up to 1,000 local employees.

According to Vestas, the V163 4.5 MW turbine is based on the proven 4 MW platform and utilises an established supply chain. This year alone, Vestas has received nearly 4.5 GW of orders for its latest technology in the U.S., most of which were received in the last quarter of the year.

Deliveries of Vestas turbines for the SunZia Wind project in New Mexico are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with final commissioning planned for the first half of 2026.

The Vestas share is trading at 28.10 euros in early trading today.
