- Starting in October 2021, the Berlin Professional School will offer a part-time postgraduate programme, a Master of Science in Green Energy and Climate Finance

Berlin (renewablepress) - Climate change and the energy revolution are altering economic and social conditions, creating new job profiles and requirements. There is demand for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate finance specialists. This need will be met by a new part-time, online degree, the Master Business Management – Green Energy and Climate Finance from the Berlin Professional School (BPS) at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin). The international postgraduate degree, designed to be completed while working, begins on 1 October 2021 and graduates will be awarded a Master of Science (MSc) degree after four semesters. The progamme is conducted in English. The deadline to apply for the upcoming winter semester is 31 August 2021.

Managing environmental and climate risks involves designing environmentally and climate friendly business models and processes, economic efficiency, and financing green investments. This multidisciplinary degree is a unique postgraduate programme developed in close collaboration between the university and industry participants. The master’s degree is offered by the Berlin Professional School, HWR Berlin’s postgraduate institution, in collaboration with the Renewables Academy (RENAC) AG, a global expert in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency training.

The Master of Business Management – Green Energy and Climate Finance qualifies graduates for management positions in international companies and organizations. In addition to modern management systems and tools, the programme focuses on the development and introduction of new business models and added value chains, as well as marketing products and services. The field of study Green Energy and Climate Finance imparts essential expert knowledge on evaluating, financing and managing Green Energy projects, as well as international climate financing, modelling green project financing, performing due diligence and company evaluations, and performance measurements in the green energy sector. As part of the programme, participants can also achieve the Green Energy Finance Specialist certificate awarded by RENAC.

This is a blended learning programme, combining moderated online teaching and independent study. Independent study phases are supported with structured educational content (via Moodle, an open source learning platform) that can be worked through flexibly and autonomously. This means that students can adjust the time spent on study and intensity of the course to meet their individual needs. Students then meet with teachers online to consolidate and expand their knowledge. The moderated online classes also offer the opportunity to exchange ideas with teaching staff and other degree participants. Students also have the option of participating in a one-week study trip to Berlin. Using a mix of methodical teaching approaches and real-world projects, participants develop the ability to apply their expertise creatively in order to find solutions to international problems.

There is significant growth potential for companies and organizations in the economic and financial sectors in terms of renewable energy, and these sectors will drive our economic and societal futures. Highly qualified personnel are the key to long-term success. As Green Energy and Climate Finance specialists, graduates of this new master’s programme have excellent career prospects. The programme focuses strongly on practical applications, allowing students to put their education into practice before they have even graduated. Potential graduate careers include project developer or investor for renewable energy and climate/energy efficiency projects in the private sector, skilled professional positions at financial institutions and consulting firms, and employment in the public sector.

This master’s degree is aimed at current and future experts and managers who have already completed a degree and have at least one year of work experience. Applicants without a first degree must have at least five years of relevant professional experience.
