Milestone: All Foundations Installed at Kriegers Flak Offshore Wind Farm

Stockholm, Sweden - The Swedish energy company Vattenfall is currently building the offshore wind farm Kriegers Flak, consisting of 72 turbines, at a distance of 15-40 kilometers from the Danish coast.

In May, Vattenfall began installing the monopile foundations, which weigh up to 800 tons. With the last foundation last Friday (28.08.20), the installation was completed on schedule in just over three months, despite the special circumstances caused by Covid 19.

The next major project milestones are the installation of the cables and subsequently the erection of the turbines. Cable installation and testing is scheduled to be completed in November this year, and the turbine installation is expected to start in early 2021. This puts the wind farm on schedule to be in full operation by the end of 2021.When completed, Kriegers Flak will be the largest offshore wind farm in Denmark to date. Its electricity production is expected to be sufficient to cover the needs of around 600,000 Danish households.

Kriegers Flak is the latest and largest of Vattenfall’s recent offshore projects in Denmark. The others being Horns Rev 3, which was inaugurated last year, and Vesterhav Syd & Nord, which are scheduled to be in full operation by the end of 2023, at latest.
