Nordex Awarded Next Major Contract in the USA

Hamburg, Germany - Following a major contract from the United States at the end of September for a wind farm with a capacity of around 300 megawatts (MW) in the Midwest, Nordex is now reporting a further major contract for a 240 MW wind farm in Texas.

The Nordex N155/4.X turbine variant from the Delta4000 series, which is particularly well suited to the conditions prevailing in the United States, will be used for the first time in the United States.

The new major order from the USA comprises the delivery of 50 Nordex N155/4.X turbines for a wind farm in Texas. The Hamburg-based wind turbine manufacturer will deliver the turbines in 2021 in a project-specific operating mode of 4.8 MW. This means that the wind farm has a total capacity of 240 megawatts (MW). The parties have agreed not to disclose details of the customer and the project name. With a rotor diameter of 155 meters, the turbines are ideally suited to the given site conditions and allow wind power to be produced at low power generation costs, says Nordex.

“We are pleased to once again deliver Delta4000 turbines to the USA. The wind farm will be the 10th Nordex Group project in South Texas. This brings our installed volume in this region to almost 1.9 gigawatts," says Patxi Landa, CSO of the Nordex Group. says Patxi Landa, COO Sales and Marketing of the Nordex Group.

According to Nordex, the N155/4.X - a turbine variant from the Delta4000 series - is particularly suitable for regions with medium wind speeds and low turbulence, which are also not subject to any strict regulatory requirements on noise emissions. This applies to locations in large parts of the United States, Latin America, South Africa and Spain.

In addition to the N155/4.X, Nordex now also offers the turbine with the 155-meter rotor as the N155/5.X turbine in the 5 MW segment. The N155/5.X leverages already developed components of the current 5.X series – the N149/5.X and the N163/5.X. According to Nordex, this will allow the annual energy production of the turbines in the 155-meter rotor class to be increased and improve competitiveness in certain wind conditions or in wind farms where fewer turbines in a grid-limited project result in better electricity generation costs.
