Kon Plong Wind Project: Project Developer Wpd Enters Vietnam Energy Market

Bremen, Germany - Project developer Wpd is planning the Kon Plong wind energy project in Vietnam together with Levanta Renewables from Singapore. The site for the 10.5 MW project is located about 780 km southeast of the Vietnamese capital Hanoi in the province of Kon Tum.

The project marks Wpd's entry into the Vietnamese market. The company will focus on project developments through cooperations for both onshore and offshore wind energy.

The development of planned wind farms was initiated by Levanta Renewables and further developed with the support of Vietnamese partners. The partnership with Wpd will drive the next stage of development for the Kon Plong project, the company said.

Wind measurements have already confirmed the good wind resources at the site in the Central Highlands. The Kon Plong project has been included in Vietnam's "Power Development Plan 7" and is therefore well positioned to receive support from the central government for further development steps. As things stand, a start of construction is advised for 2022.

"Our market entry in Vietnam is part of the expansion of our activities in the Asia-Pacific region. The Kon Plong project and the good cooperation with Levanta will allow us to further expand our pipeline“, said Hans-Christoph Brumberg, Head of Business Development APAC at Wpd. "We will advance global decarbonization with more projects in Vietnam and the APAC region", he added.

WPD was supported in the transaction by 4initia GmbH, a Berlin-based engineering and consulting firm. Given the complex structure of the transaction, which was realised in parts in Singapore and Vietnam, the company's knowhow and experience were a valuable support, WPD says.
