Nordex Receives Mega-Order From Brazil

Hamburg, Germany - In Brazil, the use of wind energy has reached a new record level by the end of 2021. Wind turbine manufacturer Nordex can benefit from the general positive market trend with a major order for 456 MW of wind power capacity.

The Brazilian government is pushing ahead significantly with the expansion of wind and solar power systems. Last year alone, new wind turbines with a capacity of 3,100 MW were installed. This is 50 percent more new capacity than in Germany with around 1,900 MW.

Brazil order: Nordex to supply 80 turbines with a capacity of 456 MW

A joint venture between Macquarie Asset Management's Green Investment Group and Hydro Rein has awarded the Nordex Group a contract for the delivery and installation of 80 N163/5.X turbines for the "Feijão" wind farm in Brazil. The huge wind farm is being built in the states of Piauí and Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil. The northeast of Brazil is a preferred region for the use of wind energy due to its high and constant wind speeds.

The new wind farm is part of the renewable energy project "Feijão" - a combined wind and solar energy project of Green Investment Group and Hydro Rein with a total capacity of 586 MW. The clean electricity produced will be supplied by the joint venture to Hydro's Alunorte aluminum refinery and Hydro Paragominas bauxite mine under a long-term power purchase agreement.

Brazil to set new wind energy record in 2021

The Brazilian government is committed to expanding renewable energy in the country. Currently, Brazil is the largest wind power producer in Latin America, reaching an installed capacity of 21,100 MW by the end of 2021. With an addition of 3,100 MW last year, a record was set in the construction of new wind power plants in the South American country.
