Wind Market Scandinavia: Siemens Gamesa Awarded 145 MW Project in Finland by OX2

Zamudio, Spain - Wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa and renewable project developer and operator OX2 have signed a contract for the 145 MW Niinimäki wind power project in Finland.

Siemens Gamesa will supply and erect 22 SG 6.6-170 wind turbines for the project in the Pieksämäki municipality in eastern Finland. The project is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2024 and also includes a long-term service contract with a term of 35 years.

With a hub height of 165 meters, the turbines are expected to take advantage of the good wind conditions in the region to generate electricity and, once in operation, are calculated to produce enough power to meet the needs of around 100,000 households.

The deal follows a 70-MW contract for the Riberget project in Sweden signed with OX2 last month.

Finland aims to be carbon neutral by 2035, much faster than most European countries, and is also relying on wind power generation to achieve that goal. So far in 2022, Finland has added 10.21 billion kWh of wind power to its grids. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 41 percent. This is according to the IWR's current evaluation of the electricity feed-in data of the European transmission system operators ENTSO-E (as of December 15, 2022).
