100,000 Tonnes Per Year: PNE And Omnia Plan Production of Green Hydrogen in South Africa
Cuxhaven, Germany - Omnia Group, which operates in various sectors of the economy, and PNE's South African subsidiary WKN Windcurrent have signed a memorandum of understanding to evaluate the onsite production of green hydrogen and ammonia in South Africa.
"Green hydrogen and its downstream products are key to facilitating South Africa’s decarbonisation and energy transition goals while unlocking sustainable growth opportunities," says Markus Lesser, CEO of PNE AG. "For our group of companies, this is also an important step in the implementation of our Scale up 2.0 strategy." In addition to the massive expansion of our own electricity generation from wind and solar, solutions relating to power-to-X also play an important role.
An important basis for cooperation is the "Just Energy Transition Programme" with Germany and other countries (France, UK, USA, EU). In the first funding phase, around 8.5 billion US dollars were mobilised to support South Africa's decarbonisation efforts and accelerate the increased use of renewable energy sources.
