Portugal And Norway Cooperate on Floating Offshore Wind Energy

Lisbon, Portugal - Forum Oceano of Portugal and Norwegian Offshore Wind are both focused on developing a strong supply chain for floating offshore wind energy.

With a Memorandum of Understanding, both countries underline future supply chain cooperation.

"With rapidly growing offshore wind markets in Portugal and Norway, stronger links between the two countries and a partnership between our two organisations will create great opportunities for the industry," says Arvid Nesse, manager of Norwegian Offshore Wind, which represents nearly 400 member companies.

Portugal has big ambitions in offshore wind, especially floating offshore wind. The government has set a target of installing 10 GW (10,000 MW) of offshore wind power capacity by 2030, to be awarded through competitive auctions starting in the fourth quarter of 2023. A total of 20 lots of 500 MW each have been proposed, with the first auction to include seven sites in the three northernmost areas.

Approval of these proposals under the Plan for the Allocation of Marine Areas for Renewable Energy (PAER) is planned for the fourth quarter.
