Hohot - China is expanding renewable energies at a rapid pace. A wind farm with a capacity of 3,100 MW has now gone into operation in the northern Chinese autonomous region of Inner Mongolia. The wind farm is operated remotely and can generate 8.9 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year.

According to the state news agency Xinhua, Inner Mongolia has the country's best renewable energy resources in terms of quality and quantity, with wind and solar energy resources accounting for 57 per cent and 21 per cent of the national total potential respectively.

It is expected that the installed capacity for new energies in this region will increase to 135,000 MW by 2025.
