African Wind Market: Nordex Receives Another Major Order From South Africa - Share Price Climbs
Hamburg, Germany - Nordex has secured a further major order from South Africa. The customer is EDF Renewables (South Africa), a subsidiary of EDF Renouveables and Electricité de France (EDF).
The Korosun 2 cluster, which consists of the Umsobomvu and Hartebeesthoek projects, will comprise 50 N163/5.X turbines with a total capacity of 295 MW. Nordex will also be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the turbines for a period of 20 years.
The Korosun 2 cluster will be located between the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces. Infrastructure work has already begun and the turbines are scheduled to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2026. Each of the two wind farms will comprise 25 N163/5.X turbines with a hub height of 118 metres and a total capacity of 147.5 MW.
"We are proud to support EDF Renewables and the expansion of wind energy in South Africa, with our N163 turbines and in so doing, contribute to reducing the country's dependence on coal," says Patxi Landa, Chief Sales Officer of the Nordex Group, welcoming the new order from South Africa. Nordex had already announced a major order from South Africa on 26 March for a total of 57 turbines with a total capacity of 336 MW.
Nordex shares are rising today and are up 3.01 per cent at EUR 12.67 at midday (11:45 a.m., 9 April 2024, Stuttgart Stock Exchange).
