Finland: VSB Finland Receives Green Light For One of The Largest Wind-Solar Hybrid Projects in Europe
Oulu, Finland / Dresden, Germany - The VSB Group has received the green light for a large-scale hybrid project with a total capacity of 450 MW, including 350 MW of wind power and 100 MW of solar power.
A key component of the hybrid project in the province of North Ostrobothnia is the Puutionsaari wind farm, consisting of 49 wind turbines with a total capacity of 350 MW, for which planning permission has now been granted. This will be followed by a solar park with a capacity of 100 MWp, which is expected to be fully approved by autumn 2024. According to VSB, the hybrid park will be able to supply around 337,500 four-person households with clean electricity. Construction work on the wind farm is scheduled to start in 2025, with commissioning planned for 2028.
"A comprehensive hybrid park also enables other new technologies, such as the production of green hydrogen, through more consistent power generation. I am proud of the entire project team and look forward to realising this utterly exceptional project for Europe’s energy transition," says Seppo Tallgren, Managing Director of VSB Finland about the project. "We are proud of our 100 % track record in Finland and look forward to completing another successful project," adds Dr Felix Grolman, CEO of the VSB Group.
