Wind Power Growth Markets: Nordex Receives Major Orders From Poland And Latvia

Hamburg, Germany - The Nordex Group has received two further major orders from Eastern European countries. The company will be supplying wind turbines with a total capacity of around 257 MW to Poland and Latvia. Nordex stock is unable to benefit from this, falling by around 2 percent to EUR 14.

The expansion of wind energy in Poland with around 9500 MW (end of 2023) and also in the Baltic countries is progressing, the markets are on a solid growth path. Nordex already has turbines with an output of around 1,200 MW in operation in Poland. The new order consolidates the company's position in the country.

Poland: Nordex wind turbines for the Miejska Górka wind farm with 147.6 MW

The Miejska Górka wind farm in Poland was developed by the international project developer and operator VSB, based in Dresden. VSB, majority-owned by Partners Group, has sold the wind farm project to Tauron Zielona Energia S.A., the second largest energy company in Poland. VSB is responsible for the infrastructure works, which are scheduled to start in 2025, as well as for the expansion of the wind farm by a further 12 wind turbines. This will increase the total number of Nordex turbines from 41 to 53 and a total wind power capacity of 190.8 MW.

“With the installation of an initial 41 turbines and a planned extension by a further 12 N117/3600 turbines for one of the largest wind farms in the region to date, the Nordex Group is once again significantly increasing its market share in Poland. This order demonstrates that our N117 is ideally suited to the Polish market and we are grateful to VSB for giving us the opportunity to work together again on this landmark project,” says Patxi Landa, Chief Sales Officer of the Nordex Group.

Latvia: Sia Laflora Energy orders wind turbines with a capacity of 109 MW

The Nordex Group has already been present in the Baltic states of Estonia and Lithuania for many years and will now be represented in Latvia for the first time. Sia Laflora Energy, a subsidiary of the peat extraction and processing company Laflora, has placed an order for the delivery and installation of 16 N175/6.X turbines.

The 108.8 MW “Laflora” wind farm is being built southwest of Riga in a former peat extraction area of the Kaigu bog in the municipality of Līvbērze in the Jelgava region. The Nordex Group will install the N175/6.X turbines on self-developed hybrid towers with hub heights of 179 meters and supply the machines in the cold-climate version. The order is the first in Latvia for the Nordex Group and the first major order for the N175/6.X turbine in the Baltic States, the company announced.

The state-owned Latvenergo Group - one of the leading energy producers in the Baltic States - has acquired a 100 percent stake in the Laflora project. This will enable the company to start generating wind power in the summer of 2026. Green energy from the Laflora wind farm will be one of the cornerstones of Latvenergo's green portfolio strategy - 600 MW of wind and solar capacity by 2026 and 2,300 MW by 2030.
