Entry Into The Electricity Market: Enertrag and Energiequelle Establish ‘Grünstrom Lausitz GmbH’

Dauerthal, Germany - The Brandenburg-based companies Enertrag and Energiequelle are pooling their many years of expertise to actively lead the Lusatia region into a climate-friendly future. On 2 September 2024, the two project developers founded ‘Gründstrom Lausitz GmbH’.

Energiequelle, known for the energy self-sufficient village of Feldheim, and Enertrag, operator of the Uckermark combined cycle power plant, have been successfully committed to the energy transition in Brandenburg for almost 30 years. With Grünstrom Lausitz GmbH, the two companies are emphasising their common goal of developing Lusatia into a pioneer of renewable energies.

Niels Mocker, Head of Project Management at Energiequelle, explains: "For us at Energiequelle, today's founding of Grünstrom Lausitz GmbH is a significant step. It seals the existing cooperation around the Lausitz reference power plant and we are now continuing this in a joint company."

Tom Lange, Head of Wind & PV Germany at ENERTRAG, adds: "For us, the establishment of this joint company is confirmation of a long-standing cooperation. Two leading Brandenburg companies that were already friendly competitors have now come together as equals."

The idea for this partnership was born back in 2020 during the initial talks on the real-world laboratory for the Lausitz reference power plant. Enertrag and Energiequelle are the main shareholders in this project and are supported by the ISP special-purpose association. The collaboration is now being further intensified through the establishment of the joint company.
