South African Market Growth: Enertrag Appoints Enos Banda as CEO of The South African Business

Cape Town, South Africa - The South African government is also focusing on the expansion of renewable energies for its future energy supply. The project developer Enertrag SE wants to expand its business in South Africa and has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Enertrag South Africa.

With the latest Integrated Resource Plan (IRP 2023), the South African government has presented a framework plan for the country's energy supply. Enertrag also wants to benefit from the market development and the expansion plans. To this end, Enertrag is bringing an experienced energy manager from the country on board.

Reinforcement: Enos Banda becomes the new CEO of Enertrag South Africa

In order to successfully drive forward the ambitious renewable energy projects in South Africa, Enertrag has strengthened its team with Enox Banda, the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Enertrag South Africa.

“I am delighted to take on the role of CEO of Enertrag South Africa at a time of rapid change and great challenges in the energy sector,” says Enos Banda. “Our goal is to leverage Enertrag's innovative solutions to drive meaningful change. I am convinced that global innovation, local expertise and collaboration are crucial for a successful energy transition,” says Banda.

Enos Banda brings decades of experience in the energy sector. He was Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Authority and has worked as a senior manager in the energy industry. He recently founded the Green Transmission Company, which is already working on the development of grid infrastructure in South Africa and will explore a collaboration with Enertrag. Enos Banda is a recognized leader who has demonstrated a balanced mix of entrepreneurship in the private sector, government work, academia and involvement in the non-profit sector in a career spanning over twenty years.

“Enos' appointment heralds a bold new chapter for our business in South Africa,” says Dr. Tobias Bischof-Niemz, Member of the Management Board of ENERTRAG SE. “Under his leadership, we are strengthening our commitment to drive innovation and deliver sustainable energy solutions for South Africa, particularly in the Mpumalanga coal region.”

South Africa: Government presents IRP 2023 framework plan - dynamic framework concept

The basis for the expansion of renewable energies in South Africa is the latest Integrated Resource Plan (IRP 2023). The Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) is a dynamic framework plan that is continuously revised and updated.

The expansion plan looks at two time periods, one time horizon up to 2030, the other from 2031 to 2050. In the first time horizon up to 2030, the primary goal is to eliminate the existing capacity bottlenecks in electricity generation.

According to the current status, around 30 GW of new power plant capacity could be added by 2030, including 4,500 MW of wind power and 3,600 MW of photovoltaic capacity.
