Vestas Receives Major Order for 900 MW Wind Power Capacity From RWE

Aarhaus, Denmark - The Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has received a firm order from RWE to supply offshore wind turbines for the Nordseecluster B offshore wind project. The Vestas share is leading the RENIXX today with an increase of around 4 percent to 14.40 euros.

This firm order announcement refers to the Vestas company announcement of May 17, 2024. The order comprises 60 wind turbines of the Vestas flagship V236-15.0 MW with an output of 15 MW each. Vestas is responsible for the delivery and commissioning of the offshore wind turbines. After completion, Vestas will also maintain the turbines under a 5-year service contract and a subsequent long-term operational support contract.

The North Sea cluster will be realized in two phases, Phase A and Phase B. The first phase of the project, with 660 MW capacity (North Sea Cluster A), was announced as a firm order in June 2024 and consists of 44 V236-15.0 MW turbines.

Thomas Michel, Chief Operating Officer, RWE Offshore Wind: “With the addition of Nordseecluster B to our project portfolio, we are building offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 4.8 gigawatts. Close collaboration with our supply chain partners is critical to the successful delivery of this ambitious program and we are very much looking forward to working with Vestas on our German offshore project Nordseecluster.”

The project site is located around 50 km north of the island of Juist in the German North Sea. Installation of the wind turbines for the North Sea Cluster B is expected to take place in 2028, with commercial operation planned for early 2029.
