Flender Expands Wind Service in Brazil: Flender Announces Acquisition of Wärtsilä’s Gearbox Service Business

Bocholt (Germany) – German drive specialist Flender aims to strengthen its presence in South America with new service offerings in the wind energy and industrial sectors.

On August 18, 2025, the gearbox specialist signed an agreement to acquire the gearbox service business of Wärtsilä Brasil Ltda. The transaction also includes a modern service facility in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, in northeastern Brazil.

With the newly established subsidiary Flender Brasil Ltda., the business will be taken over following final approval from the Brazilian competition authority CADE. This approval is still pending and is expected by the end of 2025 or early 2026.

The facility to be acquired was opened in 2022 and is equipped with specialized tools for servicing wind turbine gearboxes. It spans an area of 5,000 square meters and features several overhead cranes and testing capabilities for wind gear units. It is the first facility in Latin America with such capacity. According to Flender, this provides a solid foundation for the company’s service activities, which will primarily focus on the region’s substantial installed base of wind turbines while also targeting future growth.

“This pivotal milestone ensures our commitment to Flender’s industry leading customer servic,” said CEO Andreas Evertz. Antti Turunen, Vice President Wind Service, also emphasized: “The acquisition of the Brazil facility will further expand our reach and enhance our ability to serve customers across the region.”

Until the transaction is completed, Wärtsilä and Flender will continue to operate independently in Brazil. No changes to customer relationships, pricing, or delivery structures are planned during this transitional phase.
