Wind Farm Repowering on a Growth Path: VSB Germany has over 800 Megawatts of Wind, Solar and Battery Storage Capacity in the Approval Process

Dresden (Germany) - VSB Germany is pushing ahead with the expansion of renewable energies at full speed. Currently, more than 800 megawatts (MW) of projects in the areas of wind power, photovoltaics and battery storage are in the approval process across Germany. Around 330 MW of this capacity has been newly submitted within the past twelve months.

Repowering existing wind farms accounts for an important share of the project business: at present, the share stands at 20 percent. This confirms a clear industry trend – in the first half of 2025, repowering projects already accounted for 35 percent of new installations in Germany.

“Repowering is a strategically vital focus area for VSB and will play an increasingly important role in our project development in the coming years. The ‘greenfield rush’ of the past two years is beginning to level off, giving way to a steadily rising share of repowering projects. Repowering is not just an opportunity it is a strategic imperative and will soon be the only way to secure market share in Germany,” emphasizes Thomas Winkler, Managing Director of VSB Germany.

VSB Group is also focusing on growth at the European level: with a total project pipeline of over 20 gigawatts in wind, solar and storage, the company underscores its leading role in the expansion of renewable energies. “We are fully committed to accelerating the energy transition by continuously initiating high-impact renewable energy projects,” says Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group.
