Nordex With a New Major Order - Mercedes-Benz, in Collaboration With UKA, Nordex, And Max Bögl, is Building a Large Wind Farm in Papenburg
Husum (Germany) - One of the most powerful onshore wind farms in Germany is being built at the Mercedes-Benz testing site near Papenburg. The wind farm consists of 20 Nordex turbines with a total capacity of 140 megawatts.
This project is considered a milestone for the energy transition in Germany and for Mercedes-Benz's sustainability strategy. Once completed, the wind farm will supply about 20 percent of the annual electricity demand of Mercedes-Benz Group AG in Germany. The power purchase agreement is designed for a minimum of 25 years.
The first turbines are expected to be connected to the grid by 2027. "This flagship project shows that, as an industrial company, we are investing in the future with climate-friendly electricity from our own production," emphasized UKA Managing Director Gernot Gauglitz.
Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Production and Supply Chain Management: "The wind farm in Papenburg is an important building block of our sustainable business strategy - from an ecological and also an economic perspective. The start of construction impressively illustrates that we are consistently putting our ambitious sustainability goals for the production network into practice and thus achieving a measurable impact."
With 140 megawatts of installed capacity, the Papenburg site will become one of the largest onshore wind farms in Germany - and is also part of UKA's 11-gigawatt project pipeline (11,000 MW).
