Stock Markets, Week 34/26: RENIXX Under US Rate Pressure – Bloom Energy and Ballard Power Post Double-Digit Losses, Xinyi Solar and BYD Lead Gains

Münster – The RENIXX World traded volatile last week and ended the period in negative territory, dropping back below its 200-day moving average after briefly reclaiming that level as support in mid-August. Following a weekly high on Monday, August 17, 2026, the index fell sharply through Wednesday, August 19, 2026, before recovering modestly toward the end of the week.

Rising US bond yields dominated market attention last week. On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the yield on ten-year US Treasury notes approached its 52-week high at 4.728 percent, triggering broad-based selling in capital-intensive growth stocks and weighing on the RENIXX throughout the week. Internationally, solar power expansion continued, with its share of global electricity consumption exceeding 10 percent for the first time in the first half of 2026.

Xinyi Solar and BYD Lead Gains as Bloom Energy and Ballard Power Slide Double Digits

The RENIXX World closed at 1,252.73 points on Friday, August 21, 2026, down 1.7 percent, or 21.89 points, from the previous week's close of 1,274.62 points (August 14, 2026). The biggest gainers were Xinyi Solar (+4.2 percent), BYD (+4.1 percent), Green Plains (+3.7 percent), Cadeler (+3.6 percent) and Verbund (+3.5 percent). On the losing side, Bloom Energy (−13.8 percent), Ballard Power (−11.6 percent), Sunrun (−10.3 percent), Daqo New Energy (−7.9 percent) and Array Technologies (−7.8 percent) led declines. Year-to-date, the RENIXX remains in positive territory, up 10.8 percent, or 122.36 points, from 1,130.37 points on December 30, 2025, though it still trades around 19.2 percent below its 52-week high of 1,550.58 points reached on June 3, 2026.

Company News, Week 34

Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec has secured financing for its first onshore wind project in Europe: the 77 MW Urleasca wind farm in Romania, which complements the company's 190 MW Dobrun and Sadova solar projects in the country. Total costs are around EUR 168 million. Swedish developer OX2 will handle construction management through commissioning, planned for 2028, while Scatec holds a 100 percent stake in the project.

Scatec also reported second-quarter results. The company posted proportional revenue of EUR 210.4 million in the second quarter of 2026, down from EUR 211.8 million a year earlier, with EBITDA of EUR 93.5 million, compared with EUR 104.0 million in the second quarter of 2025. Power production rose 21 percent to 1,135 GWh. For full-year 2026, the company expects proportional power production of between 5.05 and 5.35 TWh.

Scatec shares, listed on the RENIXX World, closed at EUR 8.90 on August 21, 2026, down 1.8 percent from EUR 9.06 a week earlier.

Technical Picture: Rate Pressure Costs the 200-Day Line

After reaching a 52-week high of 1,550.58 points on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the RENIXX corrected sharply, falling to a multi-month low of 1,198.21 points intraday, or 1,206.91 points at the close, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The index then recovered and briefly reclaimed its 200-day moving average as support in mid-August. Since Monday, August 18, 2026, however, the RENIXX has fallen back below the 200-day line, turning the level back into resistance from above.

As long as the index remains below the 200-day line, currently at around 1,272 points, the short-term recovery attempt is considered impaired; a close above that level would be needed for it to resume. On the downside, the MA20 at around 1,256 points offers the next support level, while the MA50 at around 1,303 points remains the key resistance zone on the upside. The RSI(14) stood at 41.9 as of August 20, 2026, pointing to a neutral to slightly weaker market environment without signaling oversold conditions.
